Pietro woke up first, hearing the soft cries of his newborn daughter from the other room. It took him a moment, as always, to reorient his brain from sleep to awake. In that time, he swore Luna's cries got louder.

"I'll take care of her," he whispered to his wife, Crystal, who just gave a soft moan and curled back up in the large bed they shared.

He made his way into the baby's room, not turning on the light as the lights outside the window were bright enough to guide him to the crib. Smiling, he reached down and lifted the precious bundle into his arms. "What's wrong, sweetie? You don't like being alone in here, do you?"

Luna just kept crying, her face red from the action. The new father thought quickly about what could be wrong. Diaper doesn't feel wet or hard so she doesn't need a change maybe she's afraid of the dark no that book said babies aren't afraid of the dark that's something they learn later in life maybe it's too cold this is the moon after all... then he stopped and looked at the clock.

It was feeding time. "I guess Daddy's still got alot to learn about taking care of you, huh?" He talked to her in soft whispers as he left the baby's room and walked with slow, measured steps into the kitchen. Crystal had bottles already made, so he picked one out of the fridge and held it over the bottle heater on the counter top until it was ready.

Luna took the bottle eagerly, starting to drink the liquid as if she had never eaten before. Pietro smiled, walking back out to the large living area. The earth was framed in the large window at this time of night, and there was a moment of homesickness that touched the young mutant.

"You see that Luna? That's where your daddy is from. That big planet is called Earth, and one day I'm going to take you there, and I'll show you things that you could never imagine."

He found himself rocking back and forth slowly, a habit he was developing from not being able to stand still for too long, but that it also helped put his daughter to sleep. He watched as her eyes started to drift shut. He swayed her a bit more, dancing with his daughter in the shadow of the earth as he softly sang her a Romanian lullabye to get her to fall back asleep.

Years later, people would start to judge what kind of father Pietro was, leaving his daughter on the moon to be raised by his wife. And while he would try to defend himself, he knew exactally what kind of father he was. All he had to do was remember that night, that dance, and know.
